1. How or where can I go to recycle (electronics, CDs, toner, etc) responsibly?
Call your local recycler to make sure they do not export their e-waste to be recycled and do not use prison labor for the dismantling process. You can also check the e-steward website to find a responsible recycler near you.

3. How can I purchase a computer or TV that is socially responsible?
Unfortunately, this is a difficult question for us to answer as some computer and television manufacturers might be good at taking electronics back and recycling, but not so good on chemical reduction or vice versa. But we do have a few guidelines outlined below to help you make an informed purchasing decision
It is important before and after you make purchases to let the manufactures know how you feel about issues such as export, prison labor, workers rights issues and chemical reduction.
Computers
Whether you are purchasing for your personal use, for your school, or for an organization, please visit www.electronicstakeback.com for more information on purchasing Environmentally Preferable IT Equipment.
Each computer company has different ways in which they handle their take-back programs and where they are at in terms of chemical reduction so, reading up on them or contacting the company directly will help assure proper and up-to-date information.
Televisions
Currently, Sony is the only TV manufacturer we know of that has a recycling program and has agreed not to export overseas or to use prison labor.
You can change this. TV manufacturers need to hear from you! Visit http://www.svtc.org/TVAction to find contact information for your TV manufacturer and to learn more about an upcoming analog to digital switchover that is predicted to cause up to 80 million TVs to become obsolete.
