Take Action!
Spread the Word!
Use this YouTube video to help educate your friends, family and peers about the devastating impacts of the global e-waste trade.
Hold a Film Screening!
By hosting a film screening you can bring people together to learn about and discuss these important issues. There are several different films that highlight different problems associated with the electronics industry. Visit our resources page for information on possible videos.
Promote Responsible Recycling!
Create a campus recycling program that prevents old electronics from being exported or sent to prisons. Demand that your campus send their e-waste to only domestic recyclers who pledge to follow rigorous environmental and worker health and safety standards. Make sure that students can drop-off their old electronics too! Learn more about responsible electronics recycling and download our Student Organizing Toolkit (PDF).
Protect the Environment and Workers’ Health!
Demand that your purchasing department only buy from companies that design products with fewer toxics and are more easily recycled. Also urge them to buy products that have recyclable packaging, longer life-spans, the option to upgrade and increased energy conservation. Consider asking your campus to only purchase EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) certified products. Learn more about EPEAT certified electronics and download our Student Organizing Toolkit (PDF).
Hold Corporations Responsible!
Insist your campus only buy from electronics companies that agree to take back their old products and recycle them responsibly. By requiring electronic companies to take back their old products, we place the burden of responsibility back on the companies to responsibly recycle the toxic products that they produce. Learn more about company take-back policies and download our Student Organizing Toolkit (PDF).
